In partnership with The Carrack and Durham's Art Museum and Boutique Hotel 21C Penelope's Room is a large-scale interactive fiber art installation transforming a room of 21c’s historic bank vault into a woven chamber. Visitors are encouraged to walk through, touch, and embrace the piece.
The title refers to Penelope, wife of Odysseus, who nightly picked apart the burial shroud she wove in her husband’s absence to prevent having to remarry after his assumed death.
The piece will debut at The Carrack's Annual Muse Masquerade, Friday, October 27th and will be open to the public 24/7 until December 2nd.
This installation was made possible through generous support from The Carrack, a zero-commission community art space, and Indio, a store for beautiful goods and gifts. With material donation from Spoonflower and crowdfunding support from more than 30 individuals.
